ABSTRACT

Purpose To investigate the clinicopathologic features of RELA fusion-positive ependymoma. Methods The clinical manifestations, radiological appearance, pathological and immunohistochemical findings and immunophenotype in 11 cases of RELA fusion-positive ependymoma were retrospectively analyzed, and the related literature was reviewed. Results Eleven cases of RELA fusion-positive ependymomas occured in the supratentorial region. There were 6 males and 5 females ranged in age from 3-56 years (median = 27). Imaging showed the occupying lesion in the supratentorial region. Histologically, a distinctive branching network of delicate capillaries and (true) ependymal rosettes/pseudorosettes were observed. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were diffusely positive for GFAP, L1 CAM and Cyclin D1, and EMA staining with dot-like cytoplasmic reactivity were observed. Most of the cases showed a positive for nestin, but all of the cases showed negative for Olig-2. Conclusion RELA fusion-positive ependymomas usually affect the supratentorial region of young people, which have unique immunophenotype and gene phenotype, and are characterized by poor prognosis. This type of ependymoma should be identified in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of tendons layer overall release treatment by needle knife for the third lumbar transverse process syndrome (TLTPS). Methods Totally 66 cases of TLTPS patients were divided into control group and experimental groups by using random number table method, with 33 cases in each group. L3 spinous process opened 3 cm looking for tenderness. Control group received lumbar transverse pressure tender point knife release treatment. On the basis of control group, experimental group received tendons layer overall release treatment by needle knife. Both control group and experimental group received treatment once. VAS and ODI before treatment and after treatment of 1, 2 and 3 months were observed. Clinical efficacy was evaluated. Adverse reactions and complications were observed. Results The experimental group and control group lost 1 and 2 cases, respectively. Compared with before treatment, the VAS and ODI in both groups after treatment decreased (P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS and ODI in the experimental group were lower than those of the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). The total effective rate of clinical efficacy was 96.88% (31/32) in the experimental group and 93.55% (29/31) in the control group, with experimental group better than the control group (Z=-2.756, P=0.006). There were no adverse reactions or complications in both groups. Conclusion Tendons layer overall release treatment combined with lumbar transverse pressure tender point knife release treatment for TLTPS can significantly improve the clinical efficacy of TLTPS, with long effects.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To modify the structure of natural monomeric compound based on oleanolic acid-3-O-β-D-glucuronide from medicinal plant Aralia elata and to evaluate the myocardial protection activity of the derivatives. Methods: Taking oleanolic acid or ursolic acid as material, the target compounds were prepared by five steps of reactions and evaluated for myocardial protection effects by H9c2 cells in vitro. Results: Ten derivatives F1-F10 were synthesized. The structures of the target compounds were identified by spectrum. Pharmacological results showed that all of the compounds had the different levels potency of myocardial protection effects in cells. In particular, compounds F3 showed the significant myocardial protection activity compared to lead compound. Conclusion: The new compounds F1-F10 which show the potential of biological activity in myocardial protection, have not been reported in any literature and deserved further research.

ABSTRACT

Chemical constituents from the acetone extract of twigs of Manglietia hookeri were isolated and purified by various column chromatographic methods over silica gel and sephadex LH-20, and preparative TLC. The structures of these compounds were identified on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectral analysis, including NMR and MS spectra. Six eudesmane sesquiterpenes were obtained and their structures were identified as trans-eudesmane-4, 11-diol(1), β-eudesmol(2), (-) -10-epi-5β-hydroxy-β-eudesmol (3), epi-carrisone (4), 6-hydroxy-eudesm-4(14) -ene(5) and gynurenol(6). All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time. Furthermore, the 13C-NMR data of compound 3 were reported for the first time.

ABSTRACT

To study the anti-tumor metastatic constituents in Rhodiola wallichiana (HK) S H Fu var Cholaensis (Praeg) S H Fu, chemical constituents were isolated and purified by repeated column chromatography (silica gel, Toyopearl HW-40C and preparative HPLC). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral data analysis. The anti-tumor metastasis assay was applied to evaluate the activities of the isolated compounds. Ten compounds (1-10) were isolated and their structures were identified by comparison of their spectral data with literature as follows: syringic acid (1), salidroside (2), tyrosol (3), scaphopetalone (4), berchemol (5), 2,6-dimethoxyacetophenone (6), rhobupcyanoside A (7), miyaginin (8), chavicol-4-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1 --> 6)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (9), eugenyol-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1 --> 6)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (10). Compounds 4-6 and 8-10, were isolated from this genus for the first time, while compound 7 was isolated from this plant for the first time. Compounds 2, 6-8 showed positive anti-tumor metastatic activities, and compounds 2 and 8 showed significant anti-tumor metastatic activities.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo explore the significance of maxillary septa in endoscopic nasal surgery.

METHODSFive hundred and ninety-two patients (both inpatients and outpatients) encountered in our hospital during May 2006 and December 2006 were included in this study. Computer tomography images of sinuses from scheduled axial and coronal or saggital scan were analyzed by using digital imaging and communication in medicine.

RESULTSThe incidence of the coronal complete maxillary septa was 3.2% (19/592), 16 cases on bilateral sides and 3 cases on unilateral side. The cavity anterior to the coronal complete maxillary septa drainage into the middle meatus, whereas the antrum posterior drainage into the superior meatus. The incidence of chronic sinusitis was 36.8% (7/19) in patients with coronal complete maxillary septa.

CONCLUSIONSThe optimum method to observe maxillary coronal septa was axial CT. The diseases in the cavity posterior to the coronal complete maxillary septa and in pterygopalatine fossa should be operated via the superior meatus.
